Small to medium sized shipowners and managers can sometimes run into obstacles when it comes to maritime recruitment. They’re busy and might well be looking for a more streamlined way to connect with seafarers who are looking for jobs at sea. The app has been created with seafarers in mind: we know that they need to be on the ball when it comes to lining up their next contract. And we appreciate that they don’t always have access to a computer or laptop. That’s what makes our mobile app so great – it’s like a crewing jobs board in their pocket.
A shipping company’s open maritime jobs will be listed on the app in the same way as they’re displayed on our website’s seafarer jobs board – the whole thing is just scaled down in size to fit the screen of a smartphone or tablet.
When a seaman logs in to their Martide account they will be taken to the seafarers jobs page right away. Job vacancies are listed in order of priority with the closest crew change dates appearing first in the list.
All a seafarer needs to do is to tap the job they’re interested in and they’ll be taken to the listing where they can see all the information about the vacancy, including the type of vessel, its specs, and the estimated crew change date. They can then quickly and easily apply for the vacancy right there and then using their smartphone.
At the bottom of the screen there are also icons for Messages – this is where any chats with an employer or a manning agent will appear, making it far easier for everyone to communicate. There is another tab for My Jobs, which is where the candidate can track the status of their applications, as well as tabs for Notifications, and their Seafarer Profile.
Notifications are also handy as it means the seafarer will be alerted if they need to take any action, meaning there’s less chance of them missing a deadline or a message.
Once a seaman has filled in their User Profile all the information they enter is automatically used in their job applications. This makes it a lot quicker and easier for them to apply for jobs as they don’t have to fill in details and upload documents for each and every application. This has the knock-on effect of making it more likely that they’ll submit an application. Thus giving employers a greater pool of applicants to choose from.
